Emerson Leite & team Credit Suisse
After a year in first place, the Credit Suisse duo under São Paulo–based Emerson Leite slips to second but continues to win praise for “providing consistently best-in-class research,” as one client puts it. In May 2010 the analysts upgraded the American depositary receipts of Braskem from neutral to outperform, at $11.30, on valuation; they believed that the petrochemicals producer, which is headquartered in São Paulo, had successfully completed a capital-raising strategy and would benefit from exposure to high domestic demand for plastic resins. The stock catapulted a whopping 114.8 percent, to $24.27, and shot past the sector by 128.3 percentage points, through July 2011.
