Ole Slorer  Morgan Stanley The buy side says: “Ole’s calls are nonconsensus, and he is not afraid to stand out.”

Morgan Stanley’s Ole Slorer, who repeats at No. 1, “knows the industry better than any other analyst,” according to one enthusiastic fan. In April 2010 the 47-year-old analyst resumed coverage of Ion Geophysical Corp. with an overweight rating, at $5.52, encouraged by the Houston-based company’s recently announced joint venture with China’s BGP to market land seismic equipment worldwide. In February, after the stock had surged a spectacular 82.1 percent, to $10.05, and hurtled past the sector by 53.3 percentage points, Slorer downgraded it to hold, primarily on valuation. By the end of August, the shares had declined 29.7 percent, to $7.07; during the same period the sector tumbled 10.7 percent.
