Technology, Media & Telecommunications – Telecom Equipment/Wireless: Third

 Brian Modoff

Deutsche Bank Securities

After three years in the runner-up position, Brian Modoff climbs to third place — the same position he claims in Data Networking & Wireline Equipment. Modoff “fully understands all the details of the equipment, which gives him an edge in his research,” says one supporter. The Deutsche Bank Securities analyst returned from a December trip to China to inform investors that San Diego–based Qualcomm was a likely beneficiary of soaring smartphone growth in that country. “We are constructive on companies that are exposed to the rapid adoption of smartphones globally,” Modoff explains. “Further, as network intelligence plays an increasingly important role in advanced wireless networks, we are favorably inclined toward companies exposed to this sector.” The stock bolted 17.6 percent, from $52.24 to $61.46, through August.
