"Tanaka-san is the best forex market researcher in Japan."

Leading the lineup in this new sector is Taisuke Tanaka, whose “logic on the foreign exchange market is very persuasive,” cheers one backer. The yen will continue to weaken against the dollar through 2015, the Deutsche Securities strategist projects, and reach ¥100 by the end of this year and ¥110 by the end of next. (It hovered between ¥94 and ¥95 in late March.) Over the next three to six months, “I expect some corrections to around ¥90,” Tanaka says, as the market gradually falls in line with fundamentals — meaning now is an ideal time to reload long dollar-yen strategies. “For global investors my advice is just, ‘Buy Japan, sell the yen,’” he says. Tanaka, who holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Tokyo’s Keio University, worked as a currency strategist at Morgan Stanley Japan and Nomura Securities Co. before joining Deutsche Securities in November 2011 as chief forex strategist. — Thomas W.
