In third place for a second year running is the J.P. Morgan crew headed by Gloria Kim. With 20 members working out of offices in London, Mumbai and New York, the squad is the “most credible bond indexing team, because of the transparency behind their processes and their clear, concise and detailed reporting,” according to one investor. Kim, who’s based in New York, says that a shortage of such spread products as asset-backed securities in developed markets has helped spur demand for emerging-markets debt — dollar-denominated bonds in particular. Over the past year the analysts have been steering clients toward this asset class via index funds; the team leader notes that assets managed against the firm’s emerging-markets indexes jumped nearly 30 percent last year, to $560 billion, and the market capitalization of these indexes rose 17.5 percent, to $2.73 trillion. — Ben Mattlin
