"He has an extensive and multiyear knowledge of the European media industry."

The J.P. Morgan Cazenove team extends its winning streak to a fourth year. Filippo Lo Franco, 43, leads the six-strong troupe that earns praise for research notes that "go beyond what an official rating on a stock may suggest, giving clients the instruments to make good stock picks," as one portfolio manager puts it. Over the past year the London-based analysts added five names and now cover 39 companies, and they are bullish on those that emphasize digital content and services. "More people will access the web through a mobile device than through a computer by [the end of] 2013," Lo Franco says. "This will reinforce the competitive advantage of existing online players." Vivendi, an entertainment software and video game producer headquartered in France, is the team's current top pick. Upgraded from neutral to overweight in June, at €14.63, the stock had climbed to €16.95 by late December, advancing 15.9 percent and leading the sector by 2.9 percentage points. — Pam Baker
